The subscription is only the starting point. Turn searches, lists and signals into a repeatable approach to finding and understanding buyers.

Buying Sales Navigator is easy. Making it part of a useful sales routine takes more thought.

A salesperson can spend an afternoon building a large list and still finish with no clear idea whom to contact, why that person matters or what to say.

The value comes from using the information to understand people and accounts. Start there, and the features become much easier to put to work.

Define the account before searching for the person

Decide which companies fit your market. Consider industry, geography, company size and the business situation your offer addresses. Then identify the roles likely to own the problem, influence a decision or help you understand the organization.

Separate those groups. A senior executive, an operational leader and a technical evaluator may all matter, but they are unlikely to respond to the same message.

A search is a working hypothesis about your market. Review actual results before assuming your filters found the right people.

Use searches and saved lists for different jobs

A saved search helps you return to a set of criteria and discover matching results. A custom lead or account list helps you organize selected people and companies for ongoing attention.

Do not assume that a saved list continuously removes every person who no longer fits your original search. Review changes in role and company before outreach.

Use manageable lists with a clear purpose: target accounts, current opportunities, existing customers or referral relationships. The best list is one your team can actually work.

Look for a reason to contact someone now

LinkedIn’s product materials describe alerts for changes such as new roles and recent content. Depending on your subscription, relationship tools, buyer-interest signals and research summaries may also be available.

A signal should prompt a question, not a conclusion. A new role may create new priorities. A post may reveal a relevant concern. A company-page visit may indicate research, recruiting interest or something else entirely.

For the company-page visitor filter specifically, LinkedIn’s published guidance limits access to eligible Advanced and Advanced Plus subscriptions purchased through an account representative, and member privacy choices affect who appears. Confirm availability in your own account.

Use relationship context with care

A mutual connection can provide useful background or an appropriate introduction. That does not mean everyone in your network wants to introduce you to everyone they know.

Explain why the conversation could be useful, give the intermediary an easy way to decline and respect the relationship they have built.

When contacting a prospect directly, lead with a relevant business observation. Quoting every activity signal you found can make the message feel intrusive.

Match the plan to the work

Core, Advanced and Advanced Plus serve different needs. Search, research, collaboration, reporting and CRM capabilities are not interchangeable across every plan.

Check LinkedIn’s current comparison and your contract before assuming access to TeamLink, AI research features, Smart Links or a particular integration. CRM connections also depend on the supported system and configuration.

Buy for a workflow you can explain. An unused upgrade does not improve prospecting.

Give the tool a place in your week

Start with a small, relevant account group. Review new information, research the people involved and choose a few appropriate next actions. Those might be a useful comment, a connection request, an introduction request or a personal message.

Record the next step so the relationship does not disappear into a list. Measure meaningful replies and meetings alongside activity.

Your profile should also be ready for the attention you create. The person you research may decide to research you.

Sales Navigator can help a seller arrive better informed. The seller still has to earn the conversation.
